I watched CNN in the hotel room late last night. The most trusted name in news couldn’t really decide which breaking news to focus on - Castro’s stepping down in Cuba or the Middle East crisis. So the reporting switched back and forth during Anderson Cooper’s special edition of 360. As I was getting tired from watching, I experienced my own little CNN effect. My eyes began to globalize what they saw, and at some point the ueber-agile Anderson Cooper appeared to be in Havana, surrounded by cheering crowds. Wow, I thought, this guy is really everywhere. No wonder he looks so tired. But then his weary eyes made me remember where he was: at an outpost of the global village, some deserted town at the Israeli-Lebanese border. I was suddenly wide awake again in New York City.
