I'm not only a music buff, but also a film one. Despite his eclectic output, Forest Whitaker is one of my faves and in this film he delivers a stunning and at times downright scary performance. Great film with a - as you pointed out - valuable center. It is often too late to avoid or right wrongs if one is caught up as completely as Dr. Garrigan was in this film. The danger of despotism coupled with an intriguing (at first glimpse) personality is the stuff of horror stories and genocide galore. Must-see stuff.

P.S.: History until this very present day abounds with situations in which every detail of ongoing genocide was known fact and still the powers that be ignored what was going on, for reasons of pure stupidity or, worse, tactical or diplomatic reasons. Sickening.
